Hi, everyone,
I posted a couple of days ago about Podo, my nearly eight year old male
who went into cardiac arrest while waking up from anaesthesia after what
had appeared to be a straightforward insulinoma surgery.
Now Podo doesn't understand why I won't let him run and play. He is
acting like absolutely nothing out of the ordinary every happened. It
is truly amazing so soon after a major surgery and cardiac arrest.
He still is having a little problem with his rear legs, but not worse
than before surgery. It may just be that his blood glucose hasn't
stabilized yet. In every other way, though, he is 100% pure Podo, so I
sincerely doubt there was any brain damage at all. He slurps his
chicken gravy with gusto and fights the meds with strength, batting at
the syringe even when scruffed, as always. He's even putting on weight.
Podo's recovery is truly amazing. Even the bruising on his belly from
the surgery and being resuscitated is fading away. He is one tough old
weasel.
Now, if the insulinoma symptoms go away for a good long time, this will
all have been worth it.
Is eight too old? It seems like the answer is no.
All the best,
Caity and the non-stop nine
