This type of hair loss is not caused by normal shedding. It does sound like it may be adrenal related.
By the way, ferrets aren't induced to shed their winter coat by hot temperatures. It's the length of daylight that signals the right time to grow their winter coat or shed it. It just so happens that longer days bring higher temperatures, but the shed is not temperature related.
