There are many possible causes. Sometimes failure to use the litter box ca=
n indicate a need for a check-up. Sometimes it means that the box needs ch=
anging. Sometimes it indicates confusion. I think the last tends to be th=
e most common from personal experience, though I have run into some who are=
bad about using litter boxes. For some of those we put newspaper around l=
itter boxes and that helps. At times a ferret has trouble climbing in and =
out or wiping which results in stuff being accidently dragged from a pot. =
Humans can create confusion for kits or those unused to litter boxes by imp=
roper cleaning, If a litter box is too clean a novice ferret won't know it=
s use. If odor remains or if the cleaning was done with ammonia which smel=
ls like urine then the ferret will think those smells indicate a place to "=
go". Here is a product (same thing with a different name) that is the best=
thing we've found for deodorizing; it even gets dead milk stink out of veh=
icles and carpets: "See Spot Go". If you look in the FHL archives and the =
FML archives you will find other products that have worked for assorted peo=
ple. =
