I seldom write and usually just lurk and learn but the recent discussion ha=

sparked a question I have often wondered about. =
I have 7 ferrets still with me. Of those 7, 3 have had adrenal symptoms. =
One is inoperable due to Eosiniphilic Gastro Entreities, both of the others=
have had an adrenal out. The male, Blaze had his right out with vena cava
ligation. His adrenal symptoms never cleared after surgery. I started him=
on melatonin and later lupron. Sassafras has had her left removed and her
right debulked. She also has never cleared up on her symptoms and I have
her on melatonin awaiting a lupron inject. =
My question is this, if from what I read, it is recommended that melatonin
therapy be given directly after the first adrenal surgery to prevent the
second from going bad, why not just start them on melatonin from the get go=
as kits, as a preventative for this disease? Since melatonin does seem to
work, and I have had great results with RinkyDink, and since a lack of it
and the lack of proper lighting contributes/causes the disease this approac=
h
seems to make sense to this layperson's mind. Are there any studies being
done on this approach? What do the vets on board feel about this approach?=

preventative much like we take supplements to guard against certain ailment=
