Hi

I know from previous experience about this virus as I had five ferrets that
got it from a new ferret that I brought into my home. My baby ferret is now
going on four and I still have two other of the other ferrets. It can be
transmitted by clothing as I didn't put the baby in with the other ferrets
or near them. I did handle my other ferrets after handling the baby. They
got so very sick and they are all now carriers. I can never bring a new
ferret into my home or have other ferrets in for play time as I would be
afraid of contact for the other ferrets. As far as I know they will have
this virus for life. Every once in a while it will show up in their stools
and I know they still and will always have it for the rest of their lives
although they may not have the actual virus.

Let me tell you that I have never seen such sick ferrets as my five were.
They all had to be in the hospital. I hate to tell you what a vet bill I
had. Good luck

Ivy

never shed the virus (meaning exhibiting signs). Times of stress (moving,
etc.) can cause them to shed the virus which means a round of antibiotics to
quell it.

doesn't even need to be direct ferret-to-ferret contact: If you handle a
ferret that is a carrier of ECE and handle your own ferret afterwards
without washing up and changing your clothes you will transmit it to your
ferret.
