Dr. Williams,
Would you have any use for samples from Bear after he passes? He has
lymphoblastic lymphosarcoma. We thought we were going to have to
euthanize this morning without time for a necropsy, but now it appears
we have the time to plan for it.
Here are select highlights from the report:
"Evaluation of the peripheral blood films provided reveals a
leukocytosis with a lymphocytosis.
"There are scattered increased numbers of large lymphoblasts and
occasional reactive lymphoblasts with deeply basophilic cytoplasm.
"There also appears to be a mild monocytosis.
"The degree of infiltration...in the liver is extensive with minimal
normal hepatic parenchyma present."
It seems almost heartless to post this question, but it's quite the
opposite. Bear is without a doubt terminal, and anything we can do to
help prevent or cure this in other ferrets is well worth the effort.
