Just a couple of days ago I noticed something that looked a little strange to me about Teddy. The area where his butt and tail join has gotten a lot lighter. Teddy is a dark hooded sable and his tail end area is normally so dark that it looks black. Now it has a ring of cream color. It's looks as though the dark hairs are gone and only the undercoat is there. I've examined him very closely and he doesn't seem to have less fur in that area than the other ferrets, it's just more cream colored than dark. Teddy just turned a year old.

My question is: could this be the beginning sign of adrenal disease or is he blowing his coat and preparing for his winter coat? My first instinct was to grab him and rush him to the vet but it was the weekend and they were closed.

What made me think he might be changing his coat is because we had extremely hot weather here in Utah last month (the highest temps on record {thankfully I have central air}) and now all of the sudden the temps have dropped down into the 80's and the evenings have been cool.

Sorry if I seem a little paranoid and overprotective but Teddy is the one I almost lost back in February when he went in for his second distemper shot. He had such a bad reaction he almost didn't make it. So this scares me. What do you all think? Adrenal or winter coat?

Thanks...
