WHen in doubt have your vet run titers to check for the distemper
immunity. If a ferret has received annual boosters the titers *may*
actually remain high enough to protect your ferret. It all depends on your
locale and the distemper status at the time. I have also heard several
vets report on herd immunity when it come s to the distemper- and I am not
versed enough to understand how that may or may not effect a
business. PERHAPS one of the good vets can explain this theory?
BUt there is always the option of having the blood tested for titers. This
can be a useful tool for those ferrets who are susceptible to
reactions. What it may do however, is to limit your ability to have your
ferrets participate in shows etc., but I would opt for non participation
myself when it came to weighing the chance of a fatal reaction due to
vaccination. A ferrets life is never worth that kind of risk.
