It's been a while for this thread....
A couple of weeks ago the ol' dim bulb finally lit up. I remembered
that last year we had suspected that Digger might have a food allergy,
particularly to chicken. Well, guess what I've been feeding to put
weight on him? Chicken gravy, of course. So, I put 2 and 2 together
and took him off the gravy for a few weeks.
The mucousy stools have disappeared. It sure looks like a chicken
allergy to me. He seems to tolerate his kibble better than the gravy.
(As if kibble is even recognizable as chicken any more.) He still
has "seedy" stools, but they are dense, well-packed and all but free of
mucus. That tells me there is perhaps a little irritation and
malabsorption going on, but not nearly as much as with the chicken
gravy.
This is a relief - I think we can put off that IBD biopsy for a while.
I think I'll make up some turkey gravy and see how he does with it.
