Possibly just a late symptom. It takes an extended time for the increased hormonal levels that trigger the follicles to go down. Meanwhile, follicles may have been compromised so they continue to lose fur.

It is also possible that in some areas the changing light levels are startting to be marked enough to cause fur changes.

Another possibility is that the ferret is among those (15%?) who have problems with the other gland as well, so observation is in order as is letting your vet know.
