I am not a vet, however I had an older male ferret that was part of Dr.
Weiss's initial Lupron trials. At the time of the trials he had only one
adrenal removed.
He was began having problems with a swollen prostate, and we tried cryo-ing
it, but apparently enough tissue remained that he continued to have problems.
Lupron did not help, either. I was told Lupron is less effective with
lowering the level of some of the hormones. He was eventually put on a drug
called (something like) Proscar. Unfortunately, this was several years ago,
the ferret has passed and I no longer have the prescription bottle. Anyway,
the Proscar did help. It was a medicine I had to buy at a drug store, but
was not something that needed special compounding.
I hope this helps.
