Hi, Renee. It's good that you asked. Young ferrets are supposed to
get distemper shots every 3-4 weeks from the time they are 6-8 weeks
old until they are over 14 weeks old. Typically, that's a series of
three. Previously unvaccinated adult ferrets should get two shots
3-4 weeks apart.
Since all of yours will be over 14 weeks old when they receive their
second shot, they should be ok. (This is how I read it from the vet
texts - hopefully the vets will correct me if I'm wrong.)
You don't say where your ferrets come from - if they come from
Marshall Farms, they had their first shot before the left the farm,
so you will be completing the series of three shots anyway. Other
sources may have similar policies - I really don't know.
The recommendation is 3-4 weeks apart. That gives you at least a
week of leeway, and in truth, people are often even sloppier than
that about the timing. Pet store ferrets in particular generally
don't get their shots at the recommended times (i.e. not until they
are sold). I wouldn't worry a bit about being 2-3 days off the mark.
Finally, as I understand, you can use different vaccine brands for
each injection with no harm. Personally, I would try to use a
single brand for the initial series, but see nothing wrong with
using a different brand for their annuals. Note, though, that since
so many ferrets react to the CDV vaccine, you will want to pay
attention to what they are getting each year. If they react to one
brand, you will want to try a different brand the next year.
I am not a vet. Always consult with your vet for the final word on
treatment for your ferrets.
