Hi, =

I haven't posted in a long time but have a current major concern about my=
5 yr old neutered male, Wriggley. Wed night I got him out of his cage and=
placed him on my bed as is per usual routine. I left him there and he gen=
erally get down when ready and will go about his business of playing or fin=
ding another place to sleep. Later that evening I found him in a drawer as=
leep and when I got him out I placed him on the floor and when he began to =
walk he did not place full weight on his right hind leg, which gave him a ma=
jor limp, otherwise he was ok. This has happened once before in 7/01 and I=
took him to the vet and he was xrayed, no abnormalities found, vet gave hi=
m a shot of steroid and problem cleared. I took him to the vet this past T=
hurs and she took xrays, no abnormalites found, physical exam did not revea=
l any abnormalites either. She determined that perhaps he sprained his leg=
, gave me pediapred to give 1xday, .5cc. He has had two doses, Thurs and F=
ri nights. He isn't any better. In fact he is a little worse, now he does=
n't rise up on his hind legs, he still is getting around but is pushing wit=
h hind legs, pulling with front. I called the vet this morning, at closing=
, of course and she said to bring him in on Monday so she can see him again=
and to do some blood work. I don't know about eating and drinking as he s=
hares a cage with another ferret but have separated him now so I can find o=
ut. He has pooped and urinated ok today, poop is soft, though not diahrrea=
. Any thoughts? Does this sound like insulinoma? If so, why the one leg =
at first, it was if he had injured it or slept on it wrong, not necessarily=
weakness then. I would appreciate any thoughts anyone might have. Thanks=
, I am so worried, this is my most engaging guy, jumps, literally, on my fe=
et when he wants me to play with him, He just can't be seriously ill.

Ann Hehl
