I would hazard a guess that what the vet or his associates said was to fast, "4 to 8 hours", not 48.

48 hours is much to long a time to have your fuzzy go without food. Food passes through a ferret in approx. 4 hours, so a 4 to 8 hour fast is what is
suggested by my vet.

You might relisten to the message if on an answering machine, or, call the vet's off ice and recheck that time, BEFORE starting the fast.
