Totally Ferret is a very high quality ferret food. Is it better than
others? That depends which others you are talking about. Some other
commercial ferret foods (Zupreem, 8-in-1 Ultimate, Sheppard & Greene,
Mazuri, Path Valley, The Ferret Store Superior Choice) are also
excellent, others are just so-so, and still others are really pretty
poor.

What to look for in a ferret food: High protein and fat content. Meat
and meat products as primary ingredients.

What does a good food do? Provide your ferret with the nutrition they
need. If you feed a crappy food your ferret will need to eat more to
get the same required nutrition (assuming they can get it at all). The
result: mountains of smelly poop. If the ferret has to eat more and
goes through the food faster then those cheaper foods suddenly aren't
cheaper at all.

Don't compromise on your ferret's health. If you are going to feed a
kibbled food, buy the best you can. Totally Ferret works out to about
$4 per ferret per month for us. The other high quality foods will cost
somewhere around the same amount plus or minus some pennies. I'm sure
your ferret is worth more than $4. We mix two or more of the foods I
listed above. That way if one isn't availabe there are others your
ferret will be used to around.

Oh, and if a food has bits of fruit and vegetable in it please avoid it
like the plague. Ferrets are obligate carnivores and can derive little
or no nutrition from fruits and veggies. Any food that has that stuff
in it is the wrong food.

All the best,
Caity and the notorious nine
