I suppose I should elaborate about Bug and his history.

<When he began crying and whining when I cleaned his one ear, I sought treatment. >

A vet tech friend found only some yeast. We treated with Tresaderm (two drops per ear twice daily) from April 20th to May 2nd. Tresaderm caused the scabbing in our ferrets' ears. So, treatment ceased.

I took on eof the other ferrets to a vet who gave us Acarex. I'm not convinced that they even looked into her ear or at the wax... We put one drop in each ferrets' ear and repeated in 2 weeks (May 5th and May 19th). I cannot say that either of these treatments have helped in the wax/black flakely looking stuff.

Bug is going in again this Wednesday. There's no question about that. But what do I do about regular ear cleaning? Is it possible for him to be allergic to the ear cleaner? What was up with the dark pink paw pads? And the "fever"?

The ear cleaner used was Sheppard & Greene Ferret Ear Wash. It contains propylene glycol, malic acid, benzoic acid, salcylic acid and eucalyptol.
