Since I have learned that liquid pred is available in several strength, and since I am not a vet, I will not try to answer your question on dosing.
However, the best way to confirm IBD or helicobacter is a bowel biopsy. Since your ferret is older, this may or may not be an option.
I do not think there is a blood test that will be conclusive in making a determination. A high Lipase value will indicate there may be bowel inflamation, but not the cause of the inflamation.
