I agree with Mike that tryng to pull it out contains the risk of it
cutting through soft tissues and do real damage. From what I have
read with strings (and floss or tinsle each of which I have read can
be worse) there is some risk that peristalsis will continue but the
thread can get lodged and the result can be the item slowly cutting
through tissues. Hopefully, once in the stomach it will prove to be
a type that dissolves well, but I'd call the vet for advice, see if
the vet wants an appointment, etc. If you have a clue how long it
might have been or the fiber type that may help your vet. I don't
know. This is just from recollection of things read.
