My friend's ferret Vicky was diagnosed with insulinoma a year ago, so far
we've managed the symptoms with diet alone. But since May, since I last saw
her, her symptoms have become pretty bad, in May she was still fine, no
symptoms. But now she has very low blood sugars after she eats, within 5-10
minutes she becomes very wobbly and unsteady on her feet to the point where
she can hardly move because she keeps falling over. So far she's been
alright before food but this morning she's even weak before eating. We'll
obviously put her on prednisolone now but my question is whether surgery
could help her. I've read that ideally you should do the surgery sort of as
soon as the insulinoma has been diagnosed. Is it too late now? How high is
the chance that surgery will make her better? I have Vicky and her sister
Tricky with me at the moment for 3 weeks so I could try and suggest surgery
to Vicky's owner and look after Vicky while she recovers. I've seen my
Jilly die from insulinoma and I'd hate for Vicky to go through that... Or
for my friend...
