When Bug had his ears checked in April (when he displayed the same behavior=
with ear cleaning), the vet tech found only 2 yeast. We treated with Tres=
aderm (2 drops per ear twice daily) from April 20th to May 2nd. I stopped =
treatment because of scabbing in our ferrets=92 ears (all ferrets were trea=
ted). Then we tried Acarex (one drop in each ear -- May 5th and May 19th).=
Bug had his ears checked again last night. All that was found were 2 yeast=
(the same as before). When I looked into his ears, I thought they were ve=
ry dirty (especially since I had just cleaned them a few days ago). Howeve=
r, the vet tech claimed they weren=92t very dirty at all. =
Is it possible that I don=92t know what a dirty ear is? Shouldn=92t ears b=
e cleaned regularly? And if so, what can I use? Is mineral oil okay to us=
e? Will it serve the purpose? =
I will cease using commercial ear cleaner and need some idea on safe soluti=
ons for ear cleaning. Their original ear cleaner was Sheppard & Greene Fer=
ret Ear Wash. It contains propylene glycol, malic acid, benzoic acid, salc=
ylic acid and eucalyptol. From my understanding, only proteins can cause a=
llergic reactions. I don=92t think any of those ingredients are proteins. =
Is it really possible that stress could have caused the hot red paw pads, =
hot skin, panting, and the like? Should I stop ear cleaning altogether?
FYI, Bug is going in again on Friday to have his inner ear looked at, if it=
wasn=92t done last night. I want to be sure that his ear drum is intact. =
