Ferret ears don't have to be cleaned with a liquid cleaner. Just a plain
cotton-tipped swab will work fine and it can be done as necessary.

Visualizing the tympanic membrane in a squirmy ferret is very difficult.
Your vet may want to use sedation or anesthesia in order to look deep in the
ear. Personally if I really wanted to view the tympanic membrane, I would
have the ferret sedated and go in with our 2.7mm rigid endoscope, but not
everyone has that instrumentation available.
