Subject: VetRx safe?

Hello to everyone,
I have reccently purchased an item from the Ferret Store called
VetRx to treat respiratory symptoms.
I was wondering if anyone else has used this, with what results,
and if it is safe?
My ferrets currently do not exhibit any signs or symptoms of
repiratory distress. One of my ferts previously had the sneezes,
runny nose and watery eyes, but it resolved in 24 hours. She appeared
so miserable that I wanted somthing to help her. I had fully intended
to take her to my vet (but she improved very quickly with no residual
effects apparent) and will ask him about this VetRx remedy next time
we go. (If I have any serious doubts about my ferrets health, I will
see my vet right away.)
The VetRx states "it is a cold remedy to treat small animals for
the synptoms of colds/respiratory infections such as wheezing and
snuffles" I also states it is "safe for the use of ferrets"
Directions are "place one or two drops of warm VetRx on each side of
nostril. Apply one drop, by hand to scabbed area. Repeat twice daily,
until symptoms dissapear. To clean fresh water )changed daily) add 8
drops per gallon." I'm not sure what it means by scabbed area, (maybe
mite related?) but it also states "will not burn skin or remove hair.
It will, in fact, help destroy mites which may be present."
Ingredients are as follows:
3.3% (V-V) Alcohol U.S.P
Canada Balsam
Camphor
Oil Origanum
Oil Rosemary
blended in a corn oil base
States, "100% natural" which I like but I know does NOT neccesarily
make it safe. Also the alcohol and camphor bothers me, seems like it
might be something that is too strong for ferrets? I know camphor has
long been used in humans for its resp. relief proprties. But still
that's in humans.
Also, I really doubt my ferrets wiil drink this in the water, can it
be mixed in Ferretone? If this VetRx is not safe what else can be
used to treat and relieve symptoms? Does any one have any ideas to
share?
Thank you so much

P.S Is it true ferrets are unable to catch colds just the flu and
bacterial pneumonia??
