Subject: SuperPet Cage

Hi folks,

I just wanted to mention, after reading more posts about the SuperPet Cage,
that our ferrets also hated the straight tube that comes with that
cage. They love it as a toy on the floor, but when we tried it as a
connection between levels, not a single one of them went through it (up or
down).

However, the elbow, and T shaped tubes seem to work real good for us. But
we realized that the way the instructions suggest laying out the levels and
tubes makes it very difficult for them to get up and down. The levels are
just too far apart for them to reach.

So, that's why we set it up with 3 full levels (each made up of 3 shelf
pieces), with a single shelf between each full level. That way the single
sections basically serve as a type of landing for them. We put the shelf
directly under where the elbow tubes come out (flush against the underside
of the tube) so that the ferrets are immediately on something when they
come out of the tube, rather than just plopping down like they seemed to be
doing before we discovered this setup. Please note that they weren't
falling from heights, it was just a bit awkward for them. With the T's,
putting a shelf directly beside it on either side seems to work well.

For anyone that missed the pics we posted, if you want to see them so this
makes more sense, let me know. I'll send them directly to you so I don't
clutter the list with stuff that's already been posted.

By the way, has anyone had any problems with the tubes not staying
connected to the levels? Our T keeps coming off, yet nothing appears to be
broken. The elbow stays on fine, but also it has the shelf right under it,
which probably gives it some support. It seems like once the ferts were at
their adult weight, or at least well on their way too it, the T tube just
can't handle the weight. Luckily the only one in there that was like that
was the lowest level, so they didn't have far to go. But even still, we
haven't put it back in because we don't want it coming off every time they
try to use it. Maybe we just have a messed up tube, but I was curious if
anyone has had trouble due to the weight of their ferts (especially big boys).
