Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] ear infection

your ferret may have ear mites. Our ferret got ear mites once and it had all
the symptoms you decribed. It will often shake its head, and scrach alot
just after it wakes up. Ferrets can get ear mites very easily because of how
often they sleep. Ear mites are are easily transmitted from pet to pet, so
chances are that if you have more than one ferret they you will need to get
them all checked out by a vet.

I looked for any information on ear infections, but I couldn't find
anything. Only one ear on my ferret seems to be bothering her. It
looks kind of red with a yellowish tint. She does have some wax
inside, but I assume that's normal. It also seems very sensitive
because she will shake her head or jerk away from me when I try to
look at it (She is normally good about me checking her ears.) She
will also lay down and swipe her paws from the back of her head to
her nose going over her ears. I have noticed her doing this a
little more often lately, than what I normally see. If anyone has
information on what I should look for, or what symptoms of an ear
infection are, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
