Subject: Re: Vaccinations for ferret with EG

My ferret, Christopher, has EGE also. At the suggestion of both my vet
and his shelter-mom vet tech, I will not be getting him any more
vaccinations. This does concern me but his system has proven to be so
extremely sensitive to any stresses that the vaccines would most
certainly trigger a crash. Christopher is so sensitive that I haven't
been able to wean him off of pred.

As for food, Christopher happily eats ProPlan Turkey and Barley cat
food, which is about the only commercially available food without any
chicken at all. The nutritional levels could be better, but Chris has
thrived on it. Prescription diets were suggested, including by the
wonderful folks here on this list, but unfortunately Chris will not
eat soft food and none of the prescription diets came in kibble form.
If your ferret is also insulinomic, you might want to use turkey baby
food to supplement instead of chicken. None of my ferrets has ever
turned their nose up at turkey baby food, except, of course,
Christopher.

Best of luck!
