Subject: pedipred question

I have a six year old who has had proliferative colitis for over a
year now. He was put on pedipred to control it (which did great)
and even tried Imuran. (Really long bad story there.) He also had
insulinoma surgery back in October and is doing great; I weaned him
off the pedipred. BS this am was 126 after fasting.

My vet advised me to wean him off the pedipred as it was not
necessary after his surgery. But, my fert caught a virus before
Xmas and was put on Clavamox and then Ditrim to help resolve it, and
it has. However, I think the harsh antibotics caused his PC to act
up. He is crying when pooing, not eating well, poo is red-tinged
and (which is not uncommon-I have seen it many times in the past
with him) you can see he doesn't feel good--this am he was pretty
lethargic. I have started him on Amoxy, Pepcid and Carafate. He
ate well last night but only a few bites this am.

My question is this: his tummy problems were well controlled with
the pedipred and am contemplating putting him on a low dose, maybe
.5 every other day to see if it helps. Would this interfere or
cause a problem as he is s/p insulinoma and his BS is fine? My vet
left the decision about pedipred up to me as I have been dealing
with his problems and adjusting his dose for so long and trusts my
judgement. But I am unsure about this. Does anyone have any
comments? I would really appreciate the help.

Earlicks and toebitings to all,

Trish
