Subject: Cedes' Anemia
Doc just called to give me the low-down on Cedes' anemia. He sent
blood out on Friday to have additional tests run. He has non-
regenerative (sp?) anemia, which means his body is not producing
enough red blood cells. This means the bone marrow is unable to
produce the red cells OR that it's not getting the signals to
produce. Doc said that Dr. xxx recommends removing a lymph node
for pathology (a lymphnodeectomy?). He wants to try Epogen first to
see what happens, since it's not invasive.
On Monday, we will do an Epogen injection and re-test in a week. If
the PCV is back up in the normal range (45ish), we will continue
Epogen injections. If not, they will remove a lymph node.
Doc doesn't think it's kidney failure as all of those variables are
normal.
Does all of this sound like the right way to go? Anything we're
missing? Prognosis?
BTW, PCV was 27 and 29 at the vets' office. It was 33 at the lab.
