Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] clumping litter
I heard that because ferrets 'zamboni' after using the
litterbox there's a danger that they will collect litter
around their bums. My ferrets have yet to zamboni *in* their
litterbox. I have been using clumping litter for almost a year
now (had ferrets for 9 years)... I'd NEVER go back. It
completely eliminates odor and I've never had a problem with
it (even when my youngest goes for a dig in it)
I'd go for it

I'd always heard that clumping litter was bad for ferrets,
but recently
I've seen the Ferret Store advertising a clumping litter
called Swheat
Scoop Ferret Litter. According to the store's website, this
is a safe
product. I'm hesitant -- on the one hand, it claims to be
safe, and it's
being advertised by a ferret oriented store, but on the
other hand, it's a
clumping litter. Is the critical factor that it appears not
to be a clay
based litter, forming instead "wheat starch clumps"?
Anyway, I'm looking
for an unbiased second opinion before I compare it's price
to my current
litter.
