Subject: carafate and ulcers

This may need to be verified by one of the wonderful vets
who post here.

I was told by my doctor and by my vet that carafate does not
cure ulcers.
It is only a "patch" so to speak. It will coat the ulcer so
that food and water
does not hurt so much going down. When I personally had an
ulcer, my
doctor told me that prilosec, antibiotics and pepto(all
together)
were the only know cures (other than surgery, when necessary).

I used to give 4 or 5 little grains of prilosec to one of
ours who had ulcers, mixed up in his food, along with the
pepto and carafate.
I never could tell if it helped much, as he was having so much
problems with
insulinoma and tumors at the time. Hope this helps. Becky
