I am afraid that I have no idea, but wanted to make sure that the
mention of beef was not due to being fed dog food (rather than ferret
food, or cat food) or only meat (no innards, no egg yolks, no calcium
source, etc.): nutritional deficiencies can happen on either one and
if so perhaps that could be at least part of the problem.
Does NZ have canine distemper and if so, was he already vaccinated?
What tests have been done? What were the results of the tests
(please, get the numbers from the treating vet).
Enlarged nodes can be from infection or from lympho.
Bruising can have a variety of causes; I'd guess that the fluid from
the bruises is likely lymph with partly broken down blood cells --
but that is only a guess.
Could you tell us what is in Vibravet tablets?
I am taking some wild shots in the dark, and I am not a vet -- just
someone with long ferret experience.
and I took him off all beef products with no change. He has been on a
course of prednisone, all to no availe. He is itchy, has lost a lot
of fur and has quite sparse fur all over. He has small scaly patches
brown in colour. Small as in twice the size of a capital " O ". A
recent thing is that his lymph nodes behind his back knees are up and
his back feet are quite red and one is swollen. Also on one side of
his body around the hip area he has purple lumps that when pricked
with a needle oozed a brownish liquid. He is now on 1/8 of a 50mg
vibravet tablet twice a day. I have just started that today. He is
eating pooping and peeing ok but is very lethargic and sleeps a lot.
He also has a funny sour sort of meralic smell to him.
Does anyone have any ideas please.
Thank you kindly,
Colleen.
