I agree that no fasting at all is probably not a good idea, but
taking their food away at 10 p.m. the night before is way too long.
As Lisa pointed out, the speed at which food moves through a ferret's
digestive tract is only 3-4 hours, so there's really no reason to
take a ferret's food away 10-12 hours before surgery. If the ferret
is hypoglycemic to begin with, such a long fast could result in a
serious problem.
