Subject: RE: Ultrasound procedures

Hi. I work at a vet clinic, and the reason we have our clients drop their
animals off the night before the ultrasound and pick up a few hours after
the ultrasound is manyfold:

Our ultraonographer does not work out of our office-he travels to many
different vet clinics to help us out. He has usually come and gone by the
time I get in at 7:30am the day of the ultrasounds. He may have to do it
more than once, depending on the quality, etc. the first time. It can be
several hours before he and our vets get a chance to review the results
together, and if the animal has gone home, there is no further testing or
examination that can be done the day of the ultrasound.

We also require drop offs for many of our nonemergency x-rays as well,
because it takes awhile to develop x-rays, we may have to do the x-ray more
than once (the animal moved imperceptibly, it didn't develop well, the vet
sees something and wants to take another look or a different view, etc.).
We don't want an anxious client to have to be sitting nervously in the
waiting room for hours not being able to do anything.
This helps them and us (it's no fun being the receptionist with the same
people hanging over your desk all day any more than it's good for the
client!)

So it's not unusual for you to have to drop off your pet and not to have a
specific time for it to be done or for results to be available or discussed
with you.

Hope this helps!

-April
