Subject: Re: Ferrets with the FLU

Just a few quick notes: ferret get influenza, but do not get human rhinoviruses (colds). I have encountered a bacterial sinus infection passing from human to ferret and back again many years ago.

Other folks have covered what to do very well, so I'll just made a note that if the fever spikes at any point try cool wet towel wraps to help bring it down. Have encountered very high fever years ago in one who got influenza.

Also, antibiotics do zip for viruses, but are essential if a bacterial complication develops secondarily.

One tip for anyone who has an industrial grade clothing steamer: those are marvelous for helping break congestion and ease breathing for ferrets because you can move the nozzle where you want while holding the ferret and avoid risks of steam burns easily.
