Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] flaxseed oil

I was confused as well, because my bottle of flaxseed
oil (that I include in my dog's BARF diet) also didn't
mention anything about the Omega-6 fatty acid. Then I
was told by the store owner of Ryan's Quality Pet
Foods.. (my regular pet food store --which sells
holistic and fresh frozen organic pet foods,
supplements -- and the only place that would order
Totally Ferret for me!) ..that the ~flaxseed oil for
humans~ is not very good to give to animals because of
the *way* the last remainder of the oil is squeezed
out of the seeds. And apparently she had read this in
a pet magazine. I'm a skeptic when it comes to people
trying to sell me things, and I didn't know if this
was just a tactic to get me to buy *their* flax seed
oil... but, I looked at the flax seed oil they had,
and it's by Solid Gold - "a dietary supplement for
dogs, cats and horses" and it was just slightly more
expensive than the organic flaxseed oil for humans
that I get at the health food store. So I didn't
really want to take any chances and I bought it.. AND,
on the back it mentions ALL the omega fatty acids it
contains. Omega-6, Omega-3, and Omega-9. That's when
I got concerned over the ferret food, because it also
contained flax seeds! Sorry for the long story and
all, but I wanted to mention the thing about *flax
seed oil for humans* as compared to animals (just in
case anyone found it helpful).
