Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] question about Nutrical

Nutrical is a high-calorie paste often used as a post-surgical or
emergency food for ferrets and other small animals. It is primarily
sugar (corn syrup), so it is not recommended for insulinomic or
diabetic ferrets.
Ferrets love it, but you would be better off giving them Ferretvite,
Nutrimalt, or even Laxatone as a treat, since these don't have nearly
the same amount of sugar. (Ferretvite is a vitamin supplement,
Nutrimalt is a skin-and-coat supplement, and Laxatone is a laxative
and hairball preventative. All are pastes similar to Nutrical.)
Any reasonable pet store will carry the stuff. Tomlyn makes a
ferret-specific formulation of Nutrical, but the dog and cat
formulation is very nearly the same thing - look in the cat section
for both Nutrical and Nutrimalt if your store doesn't have much in the
way of ferret supplies. You can get the ferret formulation at
www.ferretstore.com if you can't find it locally.
