Subject: Dental Problems
Took all seven in yesterday for rabies shots, microchipping, Cedes'
Epogen injection, and two dental cleanings. Chester may have a bad
back tooth. The "dental expert" vet wasn't there yesterday so I'll
take him back next week for him to check it out. The Doc that saw
the crew yesterday casually mentioned "root canal" and "crown".
Anyone had experience with either of these with their ferrets? The
tooth is so tiny I can't imagine being able to do a root canal! I
have a call in to the dental doc to ask some questions. This is
another new one for me. Went to Dr. Williams' dental site but it
doesn't really cover procedures.
Cedes will go back next week to see if the Epogen has helped his
anemia at all. If so, I hope I can just continue the injections. If
not, they will remove a lymph node for testing. That will show
either lymphoma or that further testing is necessary. We have to
find the cause of the anemia in order to treat it. At least, that's
how I understand all of this. Does this course of action sound right?
Everyone else checked out good and healthy, thank God. They were all
great during the microchipping. It takes a huge (16gauge) needle. I
think I would be a wimp about it myself.
FYI, the AVID (microchipping) registration is $15 per animal, but you
can register up to 8 animals at one time for $40...quite a savings.
