ADV will continue to be a "plague" on the ferret community until
every ferret
breeder, owner, purveyor and veterinarian takes immediate action
against the
disease. To many people in responsible positions have "denied" the
threat of
ADV being a Zoonosis epidemic. It is! We have found the "Quick
Check ADV" to
be unreliable, and therefore prefer either the ELISA test from
AVECON or the
CEP-ADV test from UNITED VACCINE.
There are three things everyone must understand about ADV, It is
real; It is
transmittable; It is a debilitative killer.

Although I agree with most of this - that is, ADV is bad and must be
considered a real threat to the ferret world - I must take exception
to the use of the term zoonosis in reference to it. A zoonotic
disease is one that can be transmitted from animals to humans. ADV
is not a disease of humans.
