Subject: Bria Anne

Hi everyone. I have a bit of a complicated situation here that I
am hoping that someone can assist me in. Bria, my seven year old
albino ferret. Had adrenal surgery on the left side performed in
March of 2001. She had the normal symptoms and her hair grew in
very nicely after surgery. To jump ahead..... In October of 2001,
she started loosing hair again, and my first thought was oh no, not
adrenal again. Well, shortly after the hair loss, we found upon her
weekly grooming that she had a small growth in her ear. At first I
thought that perhaps she had gotten bitten by a spider as we had
just been outside a few days prior to me noticing this and had to
remove a rather large spider from her. (yuck)! I kept a close
watch on it and did apply neosporin to her ear. The growth
eventually got larger and got to the point that when she would
scratch her ear, as it became very itchy for her, that we would have
just, well tons of blood. You just could not believe the blood that
would come from the poor little girls ear. To jump ahead again....
In December of 2001, we had the growth removed from her ear. It was
cutaneous and did not involve any part of the ear canal. It was
about the size of a raisin. The tumor was removed and within days I
saw new hair growth. Within a few months now, all hair has
returned, even the hair on her tail. I spoke with the vet that did
the surgery, by the way she did not loose any part of her ear, and
he said that the pathology report came back that it was adrenal
associated. I asked what that meant and simply put he explained to
me that the adrenal problem had metastasized to a cutaneous tumor of
the ear. My DR is mailing me the pathology report, as we are about
two hours from his office, but wanted to know if anyone has ever
heard of this or what the long term outcome would be. I have
checked almost every other day, poor ferret, for any re-growth and
so far there are no signs of anything. Thank God for that one. I
have never heard of such a situation and cannot find any articles on
it either. Thank you in advance for any information anyone can
offer. Sincerely, Tina.
Presently owned by Bria Anne, Jasper Clarence and little Lucille
Elizabeth.
