It also sounds a lot like a blockage to me, and I would add to what Russ
said that even with the barium, some blockages do not show up on the x-ray.
That was my experience when Amelia had a blockage--nothing, not even gas
bubbles, on the x-ray. In my situation I opted for exploratory surgery
while Amelia was still strong enough to undergo surgery, and lo and behold,
there was the blockage, a round rubberized felt pad completely stoppering
her intestine.

Cynthia also wrote about a ferret with frequent episodes of vomiting and
inconclusive x-rays--I'd be pretty suspicious of a blockage there too, for
the reasons stated above about x-rays.
