Subject: Re: Childrens Benedryl for Sneezy Ferret

Benedryl is an antihistamine so it will help only for allergies, not
infections.

An important note: ferrets don't get human rhinoviruses (colds)
according to Dr. Williams. They do get influenza, and Steve and I
know form expereince that occassionally they can get bacterial
sinus infections that humans also have. If a person gets a mild
case of either of these it is possible to confuse them with colds.

How much to give seems to vary among vets and use; we've
found them very tolerant of the med, but ask your vet who knows
the individual.

Important: be sure that it is ONLY Benedryl rather than one of the
compounds which has other things added.
