Subject: Re: Infected anal glands and vaginal discharge?

Thank you Dr Williams for helping me. I am continuing the
antibiotics this weekend until I get her into the vets on Monday.
Although I love my current vet for common ailments in my ferrets, I
always said if I needed surgery I'd need to go elsewhere. My
current vet has always seem uncomfortable with surgery in ferrets.
And thats ok. I have an appointment first thing Monday with another
vet for not only a second opinion, but to access the situation. I
called two different other vets and they agreed with you, Dr
Williams that this sounded like it will have to be taken
surgically. Until Monday she'll be on her medicine, and I'll be
making her comfortable as I can. Are warm compresses ok? I've
already called into Marshall Farms in hopes they back their garentee
of decenting and neutering, etc to help with vet costs.
Thank you so much again. You learn something every day. I did
not know that if part of scent gland is left behind, or if they are
not taken out properly this could cause such a grave circumstance,
nor that it could appear to surface this late (6-7 months). I
shoulnd't be so surprised however. I did have one "spayed" female
that had some ovary or something left, and came into heat her first
season,,,, and had to be "reneutered".
