Subject: Re: Any tips on getting ferret with mouth ulcers to eat?

Feed a thick and warmed soup or babyfood consistency food --
no crunchies to irritate the sore, and try to do it ina way that
minimizes the tongue touching the sore -- which likely will mean
slowly from your finger.

This is bit trickier:
If you can get a small but sturdy bottle like a doll's bottle or some
craft types you can try this. Cut the tip off so that the openning is
large enough for a thick soup to pass through. Give your choice
of warmed soup from the bottle -- trying to give it in a way that the
ferret doesn't open the sore. We've found that this helps the
ferret not open a mouth sore up as much so it heals faster. (Oh,
and be sure to allow for breathing breaks and to let the ferret set
the pace instead of squirting it. The last thing you need to have
now, too, is aspiration pneumonia which is a danger with force
feeding, so be very , very patient.)

Hope that helps.
