Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] unusual Finding

Hi! I don't think that's anything to worry about -- I've noticed this too,
especially with my male ferrets. It sounds like this isn't a vein at all,
but a raised, elongated area in the skull that the muscles of the jaw
attach to. Other carnivores have similarly shaped features on their
skulls, and the males tend to have particularly powerful jaws. I would say
it's perfectly normal. I've attached a picture of a mustelid skull, and
you can see the area you're concerned about on the upper left of the
picture. It's a normal feature of the skull, as far as I know.

The wheezing, on the other hand, sounds like it could be asthma, but I'm
not a vet, so take that for what it's worth. <g> I'm very glad to hear it
is not an enlarged heart -- one of our girls has cardiomyopathy, and it's
tough.
