Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] Ferret Eating Poop - Help!

Dear Steve;

Thanks for answering me. Ferrets are not supposed to eat their poop. My
guy is not eating his own. He is a 6 1/2 month old whole
male. He is going through his first rut. Sterling(the poop eater)is after
my one little girl real bad(she is fixed). She poops in a separate corner
than the rest and he smells out her poop. He then proceeds to eat it.

I thought I was seeing things at first, so I had my BF watch it to. It is
really disgusting to watch BTW. I know he eats it about once a day at
least. I have tried quite a number of things. I have an appointment on
February 15th to have him neutered. I am hoping this will stop him. But
until then I have to really worry about him. If nothing else, it will smell
better in this house. He keeps the whole place stinking no matter how much
I try to keep it clean and the odor down.

He is a very big boy(5 pounds), light cinnamon)(almost champagne, but just
a little darker), very thick, long, soft, luscious coat. And a real kissy
sweetheart. But I tend to not want him to kiss me since I know he is eating
poop.

Anyway, I will try some other things. Thanks again for emailing back. At
least I know that someone received my email(sometimes my computer tends to
go wacky.)

Donna(and my eight fuzzy owners)
