Subject: Regarding Milo

Hello all.

I have a 5 yr old active sable ferret that I finally realized last
week had lost alot of weight, had diarrhea and wasn't eating his food
(he would eat Cheerios when let out though) and got tired earlier than
usual. Last Friday, I've been giving him Pedialyte, feeding him duck
soup (Boost/new type of ferret food/water) and Gerber chicken and gravy.
Sat, his poop had shape but still didn't look okay. Took him to the
doctor on Sat and had blood work done. The vet said that he had a lot of
bacteria in his poop but knew that wasn't anything since I've been
reading the responses from this group. Since he was dehydrated, he got
SubQ fluids.
His blood work came back Tues and everything was in the normal
range. The vet had put him on Albon, Aloxil and Pepto B for 3 weeks. His
poop has a solid shape but breaks apart easily (flush in commode). I'm
hoping that is because of the meds he is taking. I have him isolated
from his sisters so that I can monitor what he eats and what his bowels
look like. Two days ago, I started looking at his water consumption and
found out he hasn't been drinking the water in his cage. I placed a
bottle and poured some in a drinking dish and after a day, I still get
the same quantity. When I let him out, he sips from the dog bowl
though.
So, I am still feeding him duck soup, his meds, he eats his new
ferret food during the day, Ferret Vite, and giving him water and
Pedialyte through dropper.
Do you think he got ill from refusing to eat his old food?
Do you think his poop will get back to normal after he finish up
the meds?
How many ml of water does a ferret need a day? Should I continue
to give him water through dropper? Can I stop giving him Pedialyte? I
want to prevent any dehydration was reoccurring.

Thank alot for any answers.
