Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Giardia from baby ferret

Regarding the Giardia that your ferret got from your new baby ferret. I
really also wonder if it could be ECE, I think I would treat it for ECE,
supplement feeding is very important. I have heard in the past that
sometimes vets think what they saw in the fecal exam was Giardia but it
really was yeast, since yeast and Giardia look very much a like and its very
hard to tell the difference. My vet in the past used Albon to treat what she
thought was Giardia. I am not a vet put do remember reading about this in
the past.

I also want to make a comment about dehydration, you need to be very careful,
sometimes all the duck soup, electrolytes in the world will not help. They
need subcutaneous fluids. Don't wait till your ferret is really bad to get
help from your vet. I learned the hard way and lost my Snoopy a couple of
months ago because I thought I was doing everything right, duck soup,
electrolytes, medicine. If I had taken him to the vet and got fluids,
dextrose, and Vitamin B injected in him I am sure he would be alive today!

Please find a good ferret vet before you ferret gets sick and know how you
will handle a ferret emergency! Not all emergency clinic will take in
ferrets!
