Subject: Sorry about the baby!

Cindy,

A few years ago, we brought an adorable chocklate sable ferret home
to live with us. We named her Cocoa and took lots of pictures of her
on the first day. Unfortunately, she was only with us for a week.
She didn't appear to be that sick, but I took her to the doctor
because I just didn't think that she "looked right". The vet
couldn't find anything terribly wrong with her but we started to
treat her for a urinary tract infection. She was still eating on her
own. I will never forget that the next day was Mother's Day. When I
came downstairs to check on her, she had died! It just broke my
heart! I walked upstairs crying with her little body in my arms and
my husband wanted to know how she was. I had to tell him that she
had died and he was very upset too. When I told the vet what
happened the next day, she was puzzled too, since the kit didn't seem
terminally ill. She suggested a necropsy, but my husband had buried
her the same day that she died and didn't want to disturb her.
Whatever she had, she fortunately, didn't pass on to my other 6
ferrets. It still makes me cry that to think that this little one
was suffering and we didn't realize how much! I wish we could have
done more for her!

Sending sympathy and comforting thoughts to you and your family!
