Sara,

My vet takes the time to cuddle my boys, and talks baby talk to them,
and really seems to adore them. She takes the time to answer my
questions and discuss their problems and treatments in detail. I very
much like to know the whys and hows, and I can't just take their
treatments on faith. So she talks over things with me - she explains
the meds, I explain things I have heard on FHL, etc.

IMHO, your vet sounds too busy. If he hasn't got the time to talk to
you and properly examine your pets, he could easily make mistakes, miss
critical symptoms of illness, or fail to give you the info you need to
keep from making mistakes. He may be the nicest guy in the world, but
if his case load is too big, or if he just doesn't take the time for
some other reason, then he - and you - are putting your pets at risk.
I wouldn't stand for that.

Then again, if he had emergency cases in the office when you visited,
this may have been a one-time thing. If he is consistently too busy,
though, consider looking elsewhere.

BTW, my vet has a few ferret patients, but she's not very experienced
with them. But because of her great attitude, I'm able to get
excellent treatment for my boys. She has taught me a few things, and I
have taught her a few things - thanks to the excellent community on
this list.
