Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Suggestions needed for Post
Surgery Adrenal

I've been reading the suggestions, and while I'm not a vet or even very
experienced, I lost a boy after "successful" surgery because no one warned me
(including the surgeon and "expert ferret vet"), to keep a bottle of Karo
syrup next to the cage and keep an eye on him. Butch was acting fine, eating
and drinking, curious and anxious to join his friends, then on the morning of
the fourth day I awoke to a strange squeal that very quickly went into a full
scream, he went into a seizure and then he died in my arms, all within a few
minutes. I've been told it was from his blood sugar dropping which can
sometimes happen and if I had been prepared for it, and rubbed Karo on his
gums, I probably could have got him through it. I take it that its rather
rare to have this happen when a ferret is eating well but I wish I had known
it was a possibility.

Could luck, we'll have you and your little one in our prayers,
Cay, Princess and the boys.
