Subject: Vets: Is there a substitute for Flagyl?

I was the one who posted about the 3 ferrets being
treated for Giardia. My oldest fert of 1.5 years has
taken a sudden disliking to the Flagyl liquid
(Metronidazole) that he spits it up or vomits the
medication up right after taking it. I was wondering
if there are any other alternatives to the Flagyl. I
mentioned Panacur (Fenbendazole) to my vet and he told
me it doesn't work so well because the medication
isn't made specifically for this parasite. I've also
heard of Albon (Sulfadimethoxine), but that is used to
treat Coccidia, not Giardia. Is there something the
ferret can take beforehand to numb his tastebuds?
I've tried coating his mouth with Ferretone or
Ferretvite before administering the medicine, but he
still heaves it up when given the medicine. Just in
case the vomitting isn't caused by the medicine, my
vet is giving him an x-ray tomorrow to see if he has a
blockage.
